Butterfly Brooch Pins for Pancreatic Cancer UK

If you follow me on any social media site you will see that I have been posting lots of pictures about a design I have been making.  This design is a cute butterfly brooch pin that I am selling to raise money for Pacreatic Cancer UK.  I have been working closely with the charity and I am pleased to be able to try and make a small difference using my skills.

Some people may ask why am I raising money for this charity in particular? Well it is not only because of the storyline of Hayley from coronation street. It is a more personal one.  One of my good friends has this cancer which is terminal and before I met him I wasnt even aware what it meant so raising awareness is a key point. If we can all just help a little and start talking and raising awareness of this cancer then if it just helps one person it would be fantastic.

I am also going to be releasing the pattern for knitters to make and sell their creations or for themselves and dontate to the charity too.  As I have had alot of knitters asking if they can make them too and help in some way.  Also keep a look out on @peggysyarns on twitter and on the website for specially dyed yarns and stitch markers to raise money Peggys Yarns Website

An introduction into my life, aspirations and thoughts:

Hello everyone! I’m rather excited to be writing a guest blog for Peggys Collection as I’ve never been asked to do anything like this before. I’ve recently started a new blog which includes beauty, fashion and just general life posts. I wasn’t exactly sure what I should write about for this as I usually write about a variety of different subjects over on my own blog. After a few hours full of thinking and planning I thought of this. Writing a little introduction into my life and the things I love, meaning that all of the people that don’t know anything about me as a person will then be informed and know what I’m all about.

Obviously I won’t bore you with every single fact about myself from the minute I was born up until now, that would be one long blog post for sure… I’m a 16 year old girl who has just finished her GCSE’s. I plan to go to my local Sixth Form and study three particular subjects until I’m 18. I feel passionate about writing which is the reason I started writing a blog online, it all started out on Tumblr, my old blog that still exists! It’s just Blogspot would allow me to branch out into the world a bit more which is what I wanted.

Blogging:

One thing that annoys me about being part of a ‘blogging’ community is the fact that so many people now write blogs that many smaller individuals like myself don’t get recognised in the huge crowds of beauty posts and so on.

Another thing would have to be that many young girls of my age constantly post and also talk about high end beauty products. This isn’t always a negative; it’s just that I like to get recommendations from more popular gurus, but with products that have such a steep price tag that doesn’t always happen. Unless it’s a wonder product or claims to do something supernatural I don’t think you need to have an entire collection full of expensive make-up brands. There are without a doubt plenty of drugstore products that are brilliant value. Of course, a few are acceptable if they consist of a beautiful exterior or sparkle.

Magazines:

You may or may not know that I would give my right arm to be a journalist of some sort when I’m older. Ok, so not literally and anything but my right arm or writing would be out of the picture. (Common right handed human over here) The only fear I have of joining that kind of career is how journalists are perceived, I understand why a select few are liked by the public! Such as, the fact that some women write horrible things about other women in the spotlight when we should all be supportive and strong as a gender and also how they can sometimes send out the wrong message to readers of the magazine or newspaper. If this is my dream I don’t want to just chuck it away because of the people who were stupid enough to use their power stupidly, I would be honest and not a writer that the public dread hearing about.

Overall:

That’s just my thoughts and examples on only a very small section of what we hear about but I’ll move on to more positive things now! That really is a big aim of mine and I’d be thrilled to achieve it one day. I also would love to carry on my love for performing, mainly as a group in as I currently do with a local youth theatre company. The feeling that buzzes around the audience, performers and backstage people is absolutely amazing and I had never experienced anything remotely similar to that before I joined the company. Knowing you have entertained somebody possibly put a smile on their face and brightened up their dull day is an unbelievably rewarding feeling that you can’t beat.

In fact I’m not very political at all so it would all seem like a load of gobblydegook to me! Vintage Life Magazine Feature

I have always enjoyed reading the Vintage Life Magazine and I am a member on their forum  vintage network too.  Much to my delight I was approached by them and asked to write a knitting article which included a knitting pattern for a pair of slippers.  I enjoyed this immensely and I quickly went out and bought the magazine last thursday 27th October which is now available in Sainsburys as well as W H Smith stores.  It was lovely to see my name in print and featured in a magazine I have enjoyed for such a long time.  There are always lots of gorgeous features and pictures in the magazine including the wonderful Betty Bee who always has lovely features in the magazine.  She also has a great blog which I am sure everyone would love reading it is one of my favourite blogs Betty Bee 

I would love to know if anyone has had a go at making the slippers in my feature in the magazine if so please email me and I will feature them on my blog.

I also had some lovely tweets from lots of people congratulating me on being featured two of them here are from Theo Paphitis from Dragons Den and the very lovely Brix Smith-Start who has worked with Gok Wan on Gok's Fashion Fix and owns the fabulous Start London Boutique

I am now getting ready for my photo shoot this weekend and looking forward to working with some lovely people.  My next blog will show you the behind scenes photographs of the photo shoot, which I hope you all find interesting.

A Vintage Lover's Dream

A vintage lovers dream

Since my last blog I have been to every vintage lovers dream! At out local museum Gressenhall rural life museum they opened a 1940′s land girl room. It had so many informative features and the displays were fabulous, I have included a few pictures for you all to see with authentic clothing on show too.

1940′s era

Vintage styling has been a favourite look of mine for a long time so of course all my
designs have that vintage inspired theme to them. The 1940’s and 1950’s are especially favourite eras of mine.

‘Make do and mend’ was the slogan the government tried to encourage in the 1940’s era. Older clothes were transformed into more modern styles. While the men were away in the forces even their husband’s suits were revamped into ladies wear.

Knitting was also encouraged and if you were able to get the wool or unpick an old jumper the designs were endless. Also heavy blankets were made into fashionable overcoats.
Knitting patterns were available these could be for socks, slippers, jumpers for all
ages and the wife could also knit something for the loved one in the forces.
Sewing patterns at that time had to conform to stringent guidelines as shop purchased
clothes too such as limits on hems, turn-ups and pleats.
British women, and American took fabulous pride in their appearance though. This was improvised with make-up and accessories. The accessories were
gloves, hats and of course their gas masks had to be used too. Hats were adapted with feathers or flowers although the gas masks had to be disguised so they used cardboard boxes to put these in and some made into handbags. It was almost unpatriotic not to look ones best!

There is soon going to be a 1940’s event celebrating the land girls at my local museum
that I intend on going to which will be great to see the different styles and
how they lived. I will take lots of pictures and blog about this too as I am sure it will be of interest to lots of people.
